Wells served in the United States army from 1941 to March 1944, when he was honorably discharged. He served in Battery "A", 882nd Field Artillery Battalion, 70th Infantry Division. Bethalto resident Kelly Cato is standing in the third row from the bottom and third from the left. Cato graduated from Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto and went on to serve in Okinawa on the missle site where he monitored the East China Sea during the Cold War. This photograph was scanned as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. Various photographs of soldiers are hanging on the shelf behind Ethel and Jim. The identity of the bar is unknown. One possibility is Kid Walter’s Place, which Ethel and Jim bought in 1952. 	Gas Tanker Convoy in West Germany in the 1960s	This photograph shows a gas tanker convoy in West Germany. One of the men in the convoy is Bethalto resident Everett Jett, who was stationed in West Germany from January 1964 to June 1966. Jett served in the 3-703rd Maintenance Battalion, in which he transported gas to other vehicles using this tanker. Jett later served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. When he retunred home to Bethalto, he became a truck driver. This photograph was digitized as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018.
