Ferguson and his brother-in-law John Warwick in 1813.((<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/stream\/historyofmadison00brin#page\/83\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>History of Madison County, Illinois, Illustrated. With Biographical Sketches of many Prominent Men and Pioneers<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(Edwardsville: W. R. Brink and Company, 1882), 83.)) Subsequent growth and settlement took place from 1820-1830 and the township became known as Marine Township. Marine village was incorporated March 8, 1867,((Flagg, James S., editor,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/stream\/our150years1812100flag#page\/60\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Our 150 Years, 1812-1962<\/a><\/em>.
