At the time, the area was known as Pleasant Ridge. Charles William Frederich Lange, a German immigrant, and his wife Mary dedicated a portion of their land for public use in 1900. Approximately 300 people lived in the area at the time, and their land dedication led to the incorporation of Maryville on June 4, 1902.
