Dear Brother Willie
You most welcom letter of the 31st of last month and I can assure you that it was most welcomely received. I have just come of from inspection and expect that we will be ordered to leave our winter quarters on account of these late reverses that we have had and I hope to God that we wil be ordered to meet the dam Scoundrels for I feal confident that we would be able to give them a dam good whippin and I think that that is just what they want to have to just share reckless movements
you asked me in your last letter if I wanted you to send me some books or not well[?] I could say that I would like nothing better but I am afraid that I might be ordered to leave over
Winter [?] at any moment & then it would be a clear loss.
in your letter I should judge that you had formed quite an agreable acquaintance with Miss Annie McLeein[?] but I see that you have not yet forgotten the Lovely Fannie Clark but you had better give up all ideas of ever meeting her again as she is under old Abe’s control & some of his damed followers nere she [illegible] a head of you at least these are my thoughts at present for I am afraid that this cursed War will last for some time yet –
Give love to all
Your ever devoted Brother
