Description

Puka shell necklaces were popular in Hawaii in the 1960s. The puka shell necklace was an attractive and inexpensive lei which could be made and sold on the beach. Lia Kampwerth's grandmother was on a trip to Hawaii in the 1960s when she bought this necklace.

This puka shell necklace was photographed as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. It was brought to class by Lia Kampwerth.
