    Dear Mom & Pop
Well, how is everybody back home? Healthy, wealthy & wise, I hope. I am fine. Never felt better in my life in fact. The food is wholesome. I can really put a meal away in good fashion. I don't get much sleep, but that doesn't bother me.
Well, I been laying here on my bunk, puffing on my pipe & trying to think of something to say to fill this page. (We are limited to one page on one side). There is just nothing I can tell. Can't tell you how the weather is, what I'm doing, where I am or any thing. The main thing is I'm well & hope everyone is too & remains that way. Write me a lot & tell my brothers, & sisters & in-laws to write too. We don't get to write but one letter a day. Well, there not much room left, so I'll sign off. All my love Gene Thomas Eugene Davis
