New Douglas
The first American settler of New Douglas township was Daniel Funderburk, who was originally from South Carolina. Funderburk settled in 1819 and was the only township resident for years. The village of New Douglas was laid out and plotted by Alonzo Foster on September 5, 1860.((History of Madison County, Illinois, Illustrated. The village of New Douglas was incorporated on December 16, 1874.((Flagg, James S., editor, Our 150 Years, 1812-1962.
