Pontoon Beach

Pontoon Beach was incorporated following an election held December 8, 1962. Its name refers to the lakefront of Long Lake, which supposedly once had a sandy beach.((“Origins and Incorporation of Pontoon Beach,” Six Miles of Local History, accessed January 22, 2018.)) In 1970, it had a population of 2,448 people.((1970 Census of Population Advance Report: Illinois (Washington: Bureau of the Census, 1971), 16.)) As of the 2010 census, the village of Pontoon Beach has a population of 5,836.((Illinois: 2010, Summary Population and Housing Characteristics, 2010 Census of Population and Housing (Washington: Bureau of the Census, 2012), 144.))
