Pontoon Beach
Pontoon Beach was incorporated following an election held December 8, 1962. Its name refers to the lakefront of Long Lake, which supposedly once had a sandy beach.((“Origins and Incorporation of Pontoon Beach,” Six Miles of Local History, accessed January 22, 2018.)) In 1970, it had a population of 2,448 people.((1970 Census of Population Advance Report: Illinois (Washington: Bureau of the Census, 1971), 16.))
