Wanda is an unicorporated community in north-eastern Chouteau Township east of South Roxana. Originally called Old Salem, the area was the site of a post office starting in 1859. E. K. Fahnestock was the first postmaster, and he opened a general store in 1874. Following his death in 1900, his nephew LeRoy Fahnestock took over the store and postmaster duties.((W. T.
