This photograph is an aerial view of the Village Motel located just off US Highway 40 slightly northeast of Highland, Illinois. At the time the motel was owned and operated by Wally and Ruth Nagel, who purchased the motel in 1958 before the construction of I-70 through Highland. It was sold in 1992 and is currently used as apartments. |

Ruan Trucking Company Drivers, Employees, and Trucks at Wood River Company Terminal in the 1950s |
This photograph shows Ruan Trucking Company drivers, terminal employees, and tanker trucks at the company terminal in Wood River in the 1950s. The company delivered refined petroleum products from all of the area refineries with tanker trucks. There are 39 male drivers and managers and one female employee, the office secretary, in front of company trucks at the terminal. One of the drivers is Carl McKenzie, who possessed the photograph. |

Both houses were built in the 1940s as part of a housing tract for the growing number of employees of Winchester/Olin in East Alton. Both homes have been renovated to a more contemporary style. |

1943 Letter from Spencer T. Olin to Armond L. Hutchens |
This letter is an original letter from Spencer T. Olin, Vice President of Western Cartridge Company in East Alton, Illinois to Armond L. Hutchens. Hutchens, an employee of the Western Cartridge Company was leaving employment to join the armed forces. Olin sends Hutchens well wishes from the entire Western organizations as Hutchens was leaving to fight in World War II. Olin asks for information about the functioning of firearms and ammunition in regards to any failures and malfunctions. Olin’s letter has Hutchens’ last name spelled incorrectly. Western Cartridge Company became Olin, Winchester. |

1945 Church of the Redeemer Congregational Church in Alton |
This photograph was taken in November 1945 as part of the commemoration of the Church of the Redeemer’s 75th anniversary. The church was first built in 1870 and was expanded in 1902. The building still stands at the intersection of Sixth and Henry Streets (600 Henry Street) in Alton, Illinois. As of July 2017, it is the site of the Whole Truth Church of Christ. |
