Puka Shell Necklace from the 1960s Puka shell necklaces were popular in Hawaii in the 1960s. The puka shell necklace was an attractive and inexpensive lei which could be made and sold on the beach. Lia Kampwerth's grandmother was on a trip to Hawaii in the 1960s when she bought this necklace.

This puka shell necklace was photographed as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. It was brought to class by Lia Kampwerth.

Railroad Hand Car Workers Who Repair The Tracks These men were employees who were in charge of handling the hand cars (it was operated by hand, not motorized). Ralph Korte Oral History In this oral history interview, Ralph Korte, founder of Korte Construction in Highland, Illinois, discusses his life and business. Korte described growing up on a farm near Pierron, Illinois, and his early years of school. He describes life on the farm during the Great Depression and World War II. Korte then discusses his time in the Army during the Korean War and attending night school at SIUE. Rawlings Baseball From Vietnam Veteran David Williams This baseball belongs to David Williams, a resident of Bethalto and baseball player. Williams is a veteran of the Vietnam War who played baseball while serving in Vietnam. He obtained this particular baseball after returning from Vietnam.

This baseball was photographed as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. It was brought to class by David Williams' son, Jacob Williams.
