Gerald J.T. Runkle Oral History This oral history interview with Ellen Nore-Nordhouser is part of a collection of oral histories conducted as part of a research project related to the 50th Anniversary of SIUE between 2005 and 2008.

Runkle discusses the tumultuous years during the War in Vietnam and how the university administration responded to student led protests. The shift from the East St. Louis and Alton campuses to the Edwardsville campus, as well as faculty and community-led initiatives to raise money for land development for the Edwardsville campus. He also considers the roles of changing leadership within the one university system as well as the Edwardsville campus over time, and the growth of the Philosophy department during his tenure at SIUE .

Gas Tanker Driven by Bethalto Resident Everett Jett in West Germany in the 1960s This photograph shows the 2HALF ton gas tanker driven by Bethalto resident Everett Jett while he was stationed in West Germany from January 1964 to June 1966. Jett served in the 3-703rd Maintenance Battalion, in which he transported gas to other vehicles using this tanker. Jett later served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. When he retunred home to Bethalto, he became a truck driver.

This photograph was digitized as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. It was brought to class by Jett's grandon, Colton Hyman.

Gas Tanker Convoy in West Germany in the 1960s This photograph shows a gas tanker convoy in West Germany. One of the men in the convoy is Bethalto resident Everett Jett, who was stationed in West Germany from January 1964 to June 1966. Jett served in the 3-703rd Maintenance Battalion, in which he transported gas to other vehicles using this tanker. Jett later served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
