1940s Apple Cranberry Salad | This is a recipe that has been in Emma Hosto's family for approximately 8 decades and is made for special occasions and holidays by the family. The recipe states to make the base add 1 bag of romaine lettuce, 1 cup of shredded swiss cheese, 1 medium apple, 1/4cup dried cranberries, and 1/2 cup chopped cashews. The dressing calls for 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup red wine vinegar, 2T lemon juice, 1T diced onions, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Mix all the dressing ingredients together, lastly add 2/3 cup veg. oil and pour over the base. This recepie was digitized as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. It was brought to class by Emma Hosto. |

1940 Winchester Model 1912 Shotgun | This shotgun is a Winchester Model 1912 internal-hammer, pump-action gun with an external tube magazine. The United States military used this type of gun in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The owner of this particular gun used it to hunt geese, deer, squirrels, turkeys, rabbits, and other animals. 1940 Ticket for Evangelical Lecture in Granite City |
This ticket for an evangelical lecture belonged to Granite City resident Ernie J. Vaught. He attended the event at 7:30 p.m. on June 24, 1940 with his son William. The Big Tent was set up near 1800 Adams St. where Prairie Farms Dairy is now. The ticket for the event cost 35 cents. Charles Forbes Taylor (born 1899) was a traveling Baptist evangelist and author. Also featured on this card is Charles Taylor's brother, Laurie, who was also a minister, pianist, and composer. He often accompanied his brother Charles at evangelical events. This certificate was digitized by Kelli Killion as part of History 400: Community-Engaged Digital History. |

1936 Postcard of the Second Edwardsville High School Building | This is a postcard dated September 17, 1936, depicting the second Edwardsville High School Building. Today the building is home to Lincoln Middle School. The postcard is addressed to Mrs. Loretta Prettir of Wausau, Wisconsin. The message reads: "Dear Loretta my love (illegible). Bill just sent me your card from Rockford, I sure was sorry not to have been home when you went (illegible) Miluakee I been here now for 3 weeks.
