These artifacts were brought by students to be scanned as part of a three-day lesson offered by Madison Historical on February 5, 6, and 13, 2020 at Liberty Middle School in Edwardsville. The lesson was given five class periods of students in an American history class taught by Rachel Harris.

"One Step Closer" The 2002 Civic Memorial High School Yearbook | This is a 2002 Civic Memorial High School Yearbook has a hard cover and is purple and gold with eagle prints on the front cover. It contains 208 pages and was created in 2002. The spine reads 'Civic Memorial High Schools Spectator Vol. 51' in gold shiny letters. This document was sold for $34 and the pictures were done by Delmar Studios of Edwardsville, Illinois. This book belonged to Cherise McArthur. This yearbook was brought in by Zoey Grandlund as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020. |

100,000 Reichsbank Mark from German Depression | This German Reichsbank Mark is an example of the currency issued following the German Depression Following World War I, which resulted in massive amounts of hyperinflation. The inflation began in 1914 and ended in 1923. The currency was completely revamped at the end of 1923 with the creation of the currency of the Retenmark. The Retenmark was later replaced in 1924 by the Reichsmark. This bill was brought in by Erik Petersen as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020. |

1800s to 1910s, Highland, Illinois; old silverware | This is a fork and knife that belonged to a woman named Eileen Kolnsberg. This cutlery set was used in the late 1800's and early 1910's by Kolnsberg's family when she was a little girl. The three-pronged fork was used to to flip meat was cooked for her family, and friends, while the knife was used to spread butter. The Kolnsberg family moved from Monticello, Illinois to Highland, Illinois in the early 1950s. Since the death of Eileen, the pair has not been in use. 1852-1862 Silver Serving Fork made by St. Louis Based, Jaacard & Co. | This silver fork was made by Eugene Jaacard & Co., a St. Louis-based company, sometime between 1852-1862. This artifact was photographed as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020. This fork was contributed by Trey Schroeder and his maternal family. |

1861-1865 Hand Carved Civil War Pipe | This is a dark brown rough hand carved wooden smoking pipe. John R. Dove carved this while he was fighting in the Civil War and he used it for tobacco smoking during his service. Dove served in the Illinois National Guard, 21st infantry. This wooden pipe was brought in by Quinton Kolnsberg as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020. |

1894-1904 Ornamental Brick for Street Paving Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, Illinois | This ornamental brick is one of many bricks meant to pave the streets of Glen Carbon around 1984-1904. This brick was photographed as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020. It was brought to class by Ameena Abdul-Rasheed, whose grandmother recieved the brick from Erwin Wein. 1900s Suspension Insulator | This suspension insulator separated the line conductors and supported them electrically. This object is very rusted and also is very corroded. The material on the top is ceramic, with the reason why they use ceramic being because it's a non-conductive metal. 1901 Culver Block Brick | This is a brick made by Culver Blocks on February 1, 1901. The item was found in Edwardsville, IL. The sides of the brick are chipped and uneven in certain spaces. The Madison County Historial Society used Culver Blocks on their redevelopment of the Plaza between the 1836 Weir Home and the Archival Library in Edwardsville Illinois for historical continuity. This brick was brought in by Skye Byrd as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020. |
