The picture was was taken in 1913 by the Rissi Studio. The background shows the Schroeppel home before the sunroom was added on the east side. The St. Louis House Tavern in Highland | This is a photograph of the St. Louis House Tavern in Highland sometime during its operation. It served Highland residents as a tavern and hostelry in the 19th and early 20th centuries, prior to the building burning down in 1913. Today the building is Columbus Elementary School in Edwardsville. It is addressed to Miss Sophie Schollenberg of St. Louis, MO. It reads: "(illegible) how are you? I have been wanting to write to you for a long time But we have been so busy cleaning house since I'm home. Just about finished now. Am looking for Emma and Anna Bien (illegible).
