2018 Civic Memorial High School Class Visit (29 total)
These artifacts were brought by students to be scanned as part of a three-day lesson offered by Madison Historical on April 20, 23, and 24, 2018 at Civic Memorial High School. The lesson was given to students in a junior American history class taught by Suze Gibson. Students also conducted four oral histories.

Gas Tanker Driven by Bethalto Resident Everett Jett in West Germany in the 1960s | This photograph shows the 2HALF ton gas tanker driven by Bethalto resident Everett Jett while he was stationed in West Germany from January 1964 to June 1966. Jett served in the 3-703rd Maintenance Battalion, in which he transported gas to other vehicles using this tanker. Jett later served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. When he retunred home to Bethalto, he became a truck driver. This photograph was digitized as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. North China Pictorial Book given to Americans Stationed in China Following World War II | This book, titled "North China Pictorial," was given to each member of the U.S. army who was stationed in China immediately following World War II. It was paid for by Special Services Funds of the 111 Amphibious Corps. The book highlights the people and culture of China for an American audience. This book was brought to Madison County by an American soldier who was stationed in northern China immediately after World War II. It was brought to class by the soldier's granddaughter, Dara Parks. |

Piece of the Berlin Wall Belonging to Bethalto Resident Shelly Niemeier | This small fragment of the Berlin Wall was obtained by Bethalto resident Shelly Niemeier around when the wall was destroyed in November and December 1989. The wall famously divided Berlin during the Cold War, and its collapse symbolized the end of the Cold War. This piece of the Berlin Wall was photographed as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. It was brought to class by Kaylee Klaustermeier. |

Williams is a veteran of the Vietnam War who played baseball while serving in Vietnam. He obtained this particular baseball after returning from Vietnam.
