Piece of the Berlin Wall Belonging to Bethalto Resident Shelly Niemeier This small fragment of the Berlin Wall was obtained by Bethalto resident Shelly Niemeier around when the wall was destroyed in November and December 1989. The wall famously divided Berlin during the Cold War, and its collapse symbolized the end of the Cold War.

This piece of the Berlin Wall was photographed as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. It was brought to class by Kaylee Klaustermeier.

Phyllis Werner Oral History This oral history interview with Ellen Nore-Nordhouser is part of a collection of oral histories conducted as part of a research project related to the 50th Anniversary of SIUE between 2005 and 2008.

Werner began work with the university out of state working as a recruiter, she eventually became the Weekend University Coordinator and Director of the Student Services Center. Puro speaks to the changes over time on focusing on student retention and programs such as Freshmen First and Weekend University.
