2018 Civic Memorial High School Class Visit (29 total)
These artifacts were brought by students to be scanned as part of a three-day lesson offered by Madison Historical on April 20, 23, and 24, 2018 at Civic Memorial High School. The lesson was given to students in a junior American history class taught by Suze Gibson. Students also conducted four oral histories.

1965 Poster for Farm Auction in Belleview, Illinois | This poster from 1965 was used to advertise a farm auction in Belleview, Illinois in Calhoun County. Joyce A. Jennings, the owner of the farm, was selling the farm following the death of her husband, and was auctioning off various farm equipment, crops, and other miscellaneous material goods. A lunch was also held at the auction, provided by the North Calhoun Woman’s Club. This poster was scanned as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. War Rations Book from World War II | This World War II war rations book was issued to Mary Whipple of Alton in 1943. It contains numerous stamps used to purchase goods rationed during the war. The stamps are decorated with artillery, aircraft carriers, tanks, and airplanes. Some of the stamps were already used. 1940s Chinese Paper Money | These seven bills of Chinese paper money were issued in the 1930s and 1940s by either the Bank of China or the Central Bank of China. They were brought to Madison County by an American soldier who was stationed in northern China immediately after World War II. These bills were scanned as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. They were brought to class by the soldier's granddaughter, Dara Parks. |
