These artifacts were brought by students to be scanned as part of a three-day lesson offered by Madison Historical on February 5, 6, and 13, 2020 at Liberty Middle School in Edwardsville. The lesson was given five class periods of students in an American history class taught by Rachel Harris.

Cross Necklace from 1960 Lexi Raker's Great Grandmother gave her a very valuable cross necklace soon before she passed away. It's a small, silver cross necklace with the top hook reading: "Amen." The necklace was made circa 1960 in Rome. The necklace is very thin so it is very fragile.

Crescent Roll Recipe This is a Christmas party recipe for moon shaped dinner rolls. It is from 2003 and was often used for special occasions such as birthdays by the Leaser family.

Circa 1970s Apple Sauce Cake Recipe This is a recipe for apple sauce cake that was created circa 1970, and has since been passed down generationally through Elena Konradt's family. The paper has yellowed with age and has collected stains over time. This recipe was made every year for Elena's grandmother on her birthday.

Circa 1934 Zike Family Children in the Front Yard of their Maple Street Home in Collinsville, Illinois This is a photograph taken by Pearl Zike of her six children. From left to right: Bobby, Donna, Lloyd, Norma, Jackie, and Louis. The image was taken during the summer of 1934 at their residence on Maple Street in Collinsville, Illinois. All of the clothing and toys were handmade.

Circa 1900 Iron Cast Nutcracker This iron dog was manufactured by the Harper Supply Company in Chicago, Illinois. In the 1940s, its mould was destroyed for brass. Its tail is used to open the dog's mouth for use as a nutcracker.

Chris Federmann's 2008 Silver Star The Silver Star is the 3rd highest military honor. Chris Federmann was awarded the Silver Star in July of 2008. He was awarded the Silver Star because of his actions in Operation Iraqi Freedom. At the same time there had only been 500 Silver Stars awarded in history. Chris Federmann's actions prevented Anti-Iraqi forces from overwhelming friendly positions. His award speech states, "Chris L. Federmann was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuois gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as detachment weapons sergeant."

Chinese Currency This coin was owned by Freddy An's grandparents in 1970's Beijing, China. The coin is very light compared to most coins and has been well preserved. It has a value of one yuan in Chinese currency.

Arrowhead This arrowhead was found by Dorothy Wood in 1982 in Edgar County, Illinois. The arrowhead was passed down to Erin DeVries, Dorothy's Granddaughter, who now lives in Edwardsville, Illinois. The arrowhead is handcrafted from rock. It is brown and grey with sporadic specs lighter colors.

Antique 1940's Serving Spoon, Given as a Wedding Gift A silver slotted serving spoon which has a floral motif along the handle and the ladle is slotted with a design.
