2020 Liberty Middle School Class Visit (97 total)
These artifacts were brought by students to be scanned as part of a three-day lesson offered by Madison Historical on February 5, 6, and 13, 2020 at Liberty Middle School in Edwardsville. The lesson was given five class periods of students in an American history class taught by Rachel Harris.

1967 Stanley Handyman Block Plane | The Stanley Handyman block plane is used to shave wood. This wood shaver is made mostly of metal, but has two wooden handles. The grip on the front can be changed out or adjusted. This specific block plane was purchased in the late 1960's, after the specific brand's quality dropped in the 1920s. This artifact was photographed as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020, and was contributed by Brynn Gent and family. |

1969 Moscow Ruble Coins | This was the official Russian Currency used between 1917 to the end of the Soviet Union in 1991. At its height, it was worth approximately .991667 USD. This currency was made between 1969 and 1980s. It was probably made in the capital of the Soviet union, Moscow. These coins were photographed as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020, contributed by Arik Screnchuk and his family. |

1969-1975 Italian Lira | These are Italian Liras ranging in date of mint from 1969 and 1975. They were owned by the Great-great-grandfather of Kira Reed of Edwardsville, Illinois, he was born and raised in Bari, Italy until he married and moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1870. There in Oregon, Reed's Great-great-grandfather had three sons and two daughters. When all five of their children grew to adulthood, they moved to Seattle, Washington. Three years after their children had moved out Kira Reed's great-great-grandparents moved back to Bari, Italy. While living in Seattle Kira's great-grandpa had three sons, Scott, Steven and Logan. Kira's great-great-grandfather passed away, he sent my great-grandpa these Italian dollar bills as a keepsake. The money was then passed onto Kira's Great-grandmother and subsequently her son, Steven, who passed it onto his daughter Joleene. Joleene then passed the money onto her daughter Kirra Reed. 1972 Madison County Plot Map of Lakewood, Jolda, and Oakdale Subdivisions in Glen Carbon | This item is a Madison County Plot Map from February 5, 1972. It displays Jolda, Lakewood, and Oakdale subdivsions in Madision County, Illinois. On the map are identifiable train tracks owned by the Chicago North Railroad and Northpole Western Railroad. These neighborhoods are in Glen Carbon, Illinois. Also present on the map are geographical markers such as lakes as well as traffic roads, and identifiable land plots throughout the area. This map was brought in by Julia Melosci as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020. |

1973 Raggedy Ann Ornament | This object is a Raggedy Ann ornament. Raggedy Ann is a character in a series of children's books from 1880-1938. This ornament is 47 years old and was a gift to Erin Frank's Grandmother by a neighbor, Betty Matesam, to be gifted to Kendall Frank when she was born. The Frank family hangs the ornament on their Christmas tree every year. This object was digitized as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. 1975 Table Cloth with Rose Patches | This table cloth was made by Kiymet Kulavuz in Turkey during the 1970's. She had originally embroidered the rose patches herself, and then sewn them onto a table cloth before she got married. She then retired it to her daughter, Derya Kulavuz-Onal (who currently posseses it as of 2020), as a wedding gift in 2005. 1981 Cookbook Celebrating 25 Years of Women in the Farm Bureau | Cookbook 25 Years: Women of the Farm Bureau is a cookbook compiled by the Madison County Farm Bureau Women's Committee in Edwardsville, Illinois. This cookbook is 490 pages worth of recipies from various families in Madison County, divided by the type of meal each recipe was meant to serve. This cookbook was scanned as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020. This cookbook was contributed by Olivia Coll and her family. |

1981-1982 Columbia Elementary and Junior High Yearbook | This item is a Columbia Elementary and Junior High School yearbook. The school was built during 1981-1982. This thin booklet use to be white but faded into beige. On the center of the cover is a blue eagle (their mascot). Inside the yearbook shows Mrs. Irene Noblin's first grade class. 1988 Anita Baker-'Giving You the Best That I Got' Cassette Tape | This is a cassette tape with the album "Giving You the Best That I Got" by Anita Baker. The front cover shows Anita Baker looking off into the distance while she is leaned against what appears to be a stone basin. The cassette case holds the cassette tape inside, as well as the cover paper. The cover paper shows the lyrics of all of the songs and the people who plays the instruments in each song.
