Personal letter to Louise Mudge, 1944 This is a personal letter to Louise Mudge, wife of Dick Howard Mudge, composed on Sept. 9, 1944. Sent from a Columbus, Mississippi, the letter is signed “Winfrey” and contains personal communications about life and the weather. 1944 March 15, 2019
1943-44 Venice High School Basketball Team This photograph shows members of the 1943-44 Venice High School basketball team. The team was coached by John Warford and had a record of 8-16. Some of the members of the team went on to serve in World War II. At the time of this photograph, Venice schools were segregated, so all members of the basketball team were white.

All but Jim Reidelberger were in the Class of '44; Riedelberger was in the Class of '45.

1943 Letter from Spencer T. Olin to Armond L. Hutchens This letter is an original letter from Spencer T. Olin, Vice President of Western Cartridge Company in East Alton, Illinois to Armond L. Hutchens. Hutchens, an employee of the Western Cartridge Company was leaving employment to join the armed forces. Olin sends Hutchens well wishes from the entire Western organizations as Hutchens was leaving to fight in World War II. Olin asks for information about the functioning of firearms and ammunition in regards to any failures and malfunctions. Olin’s letter has Hutchens’ last name spelled incorrectly. War Ration Book from Moro, IL, for years 1943-4 This is a war ration book that was used in Moro, IL. On the front is an image of a woman farming alongside text that reads, "Food Will Win The War." Additional text is located along the bottom of the pamphelt that says, "Compliments of Burrus Quality Hybrids. There are ration stamps inside and it is bound by a red string and on the back is a calendar with dates.

1943 Photograph of Lester Kelley in World War II Uniform This is a picture of Lester Kelley from 1943. Kelley is the recipient of multiple military honors for active service in combat. He passed away in 2009.

This photograph was photographed as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. It was brought into class by his grandchild Camden Kelley.
