Piece of the Berlin Wall Belonging to Bethalto Resident Shelly Niemeier | This small fragment of the Berlin Wall was obtained by Bethalto resident Shelly Niemeier around when the wall was destroyed in November and December 1989. The wall famously divided Berlin during the Cold War, and its collapse symbolized the end of the Cold War. Gas Tanker Convoy in West Germany in the 1960s | This photograph shows a gas tanker convoy in West Germany. One of the men in the convoy is Bethalto resident Everett Jett, who was stationed in West Germany from January 1964 to June 1966. Jett served in the 3-703rd Maintenance Battalion, in which he transported gas to other vehicles using this tanker. Jett later served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. When he retunred home to Bethalto, he became a truck driver. This photograph was digitized as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. It was brought to class by Jett's grandon, Colton Hyman. |
