Fairmont City is a village in both St. Clair and Madison counties. Incorporated between 1910 and 1920, by 1920 the village of Fairmont city had a population of 1,056.((Fifteenth Census of the United States: 1930, Population Volume I (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1931), 316.)) The Hispanic population doubled between 1990 and 2000, growing from 27.9% in 1990 to 55.3% in 2000.((1990 Census of Population, General Population Characteristics: Illinois (Washington: Bureau of the Census, 1992), 52;  Illinois: 2000, Summary Population and Housing Characteristics, 2000 Census of Population and Housing (Washington: Bureau of the Census, 2002), 230)) As of the 2010 census, the village of Fairmont City has 2,635 residents, with 71.4%, or 1,882, Hispanic people.((Illinois: 2010, Summary Population and Housing Characteristics, 2010 Census of Population and Housing (Washington: Bureau of the Census, 2012), 280.))
