These artifacts were brought by students to be scanned as part of a three-day lesson offered by Madison Historical on April 12, 15, and 22, 2019 at Civic Memorial High School. The lesson was given to students in a junior American history class taught by Suze Gibson.

	Circa 1978 Old Spice Shaving Kit	This shaving kit was manufactured by the Shulton Company circa 1978, with the Old Spice brand name. The company branded their products with colonial sailing ships, this kit in particular is marked with the ship Recovery. The brush was made with boar bristle. 	Burnett Company Glass Medicine Bottle	This glass bottle was made by the Joseph Burnett Company, a flavor extract company based in Boston. Listed on the bottle is "cocoaine," which was likely the company's "Cocoaine for the Hair" product. 	Alt-Wood Merchants Softball Team, 1963 State Champions	This clipping from the Alton Telegraph includes a photo of the local Alt-Wood Merchants Softball Team, which won the state championship in 1963. The local softball team was composed of men from the Alton-Wood River area. The photogrpah was included with the Telegraph's series, Our Past, and was submitted to the Telegraph by team member Noel "Butch" Rister, who is photographhed. 	1999 Original Print of the Wood River Refinery, Given to JoAnn Laird Upon Her Retirement	This limited edition print of the Wood River Refinery was drawn by St. Louis artist John Pils in 1999. The Shell refinery gave the print to JoAnn Laird upon her retirement from the refinery in 2000. This print is 262 of the 2000 total prints created. The original certificate was issued June 21, 1919 to certify the marriage of Claude D. Potter and Josie Anna Walker in Malden, Missouri, in the Missouri Bootheel. 	1964 Application for Edwardsville Resident Kenneth Linkeman to Receive State Farmer Degree from the Illinois Assocation of the Future Farmers of America	Edwardsville resident Kenneth Linkeman submitted this application in 1964 to receive a State Farmer Degree from the Illinois Association of the Future Farmers of America. At the time of the application, Linkeman was a 17-year-old senior at Edwardsville High School who rented 40 acres of farm land. Prior to the application, he had cultivated corn, soybeans, and wheat, and had attempted to raise pigs though was unsuccessful. Linkeman was the president of the Edwardsville FFA chapter, which had 44 members. The application includes various details about Linkeman's farm, the Edwardsville FFA chapter, and his high school transcript. 	1963 and 1964 Vietnam War Draft Classifications Sent to Eugene Weinmann	These two draft notifications were sent to Bethalto resident Eugene Weinmann during the early years of the Vietnam War draft. The first was sent October 28, 1963 and classified Weinmann in 1-A, making him available for unrestricted military service. The second was sent October 19, 1964, which classified him in 3-A and made him unavailable for military service due to "hardship to dependents." Weinmann also had hearing and sight issues. The local draft board was located on Hillsboro Avenue in Edwardsville. These documents were scanned as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2019. 	1962 History of Midway in the Madison County Sesquicentennial	This is a clipping from the September 4, 1962 Madison County sesquicentennial joint publication of the Alton Evening Telegrpah, the Granite City Press-Record, and the Edwardsville Intelligencer. The clipping includes the article "Midway Was Named for Its Locale" by Mrs. Lloyd Frillman about the history of the unincorporated community of Midway north of Edwardsville. It includes histories of the community's churches, schools, and Midway Service Station. Also in this clipping are portions of articles about the histories of Alton, Pleasant Ridge, Shurtleff College, and Granite City.
