	Two Soldiers in an abandoned World War II Hanger in West Germany in the 1960s	This photograph shows two soldiers standing in front of a 2HALF ton gas tanker in an abandoned World War II Hanger in West Germany. One of the men is likely Bethalto resident Everett Jett, who was stationed in West Germany from January 1964 to June 1966. Jett served in the 3-703rd Maintenance Battalion, in which he transported gas to other vehicles using this tanker. Jett later served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. When he retunred home to Bethalto, he became a truck driver. This photograph was digitized as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. 	Truck Driven by Sakasitz in West Germany in the 1960s	This photograph shows a truck driven by a Sakasitz, a soldier serving in the 3-703rd Maintenance Battalion. Also in the Battalion was y Bethalto resident Everett Jett, who was stationed West Germany from January 1964 to June 1966. Jett transported gas to other vehicles using a gas tanker. Jett later served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. When he retunred home to Bethalto, he became a truck driver. 	1963 and 1964 Vietnam War Draft Classifications Sent to Eugene Weinmann	These two draft notifications were sent to Bethalto resident Eugene Weinmann during the early years of the Vietnam War draft. The first was sent October 28, 1963 and classified Weinmann in 1-A, making him available for unrestricted military service. The second was sent October 19, 1964, which classified him in 3-A and made him unavailable for military service due to "hardship to dependents." Weinmann also had hearing and sight issues. The local draft board was located on Hillsboro Avenue in Edwardsville. These documents were scanned as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2019. 	Enlistees in the US Army in 1959, including Bethalto resident Kelly Cato	This is a group photograph of enlistees in the US army in 1959. Bethalto resident Kelly Cato is standing in the third row from the bottom and third from the left. Cato graduated from Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto and went on to serve in Okinawa on the missle site where he monitored the East China Sea during the Cold War. This photograph was scanned as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. 	North China Pictorial Book given to Americans Stationed in China Following World War II	This book, titled "North China Pictorial," was given to each member of the U.S. army who was stationed in China immediately following World War II. It was paid for by Special Services Funds of the 111 Amphibious Corps. The book highlights the people and culture of China for an American audience. This book was brought to Madison County by an American soldier who was stationed in northern China immediately after World War II. Select pages of this book were photographed as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. 	1940s Chinese Paper Money	These seven bills of Chinese paper money were issued in the 1930s and 1940s by either the Bank of China or the Central Bank of China. They were brought to Madison County by an American soldier who was stationed in northern China immediately after World War II. These bills were scanned as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. They were brought to class by the soldier's granddaughter, Dara Parks. 	Ethel and Jim Hirsch Welcoming Returning Soldiers after World War II in a Highland Bar	This photograph shows Ethel and Jim Hirsch (far left) and others welcoming home soldiers returning from World War II in a Highland. Various photographs of soldiers are hanging on the shelf behind Ethel and Jim. The identity of the bar is unknown. One possibility is Kid Walter’s Place, which Ethel and Jim bought in 1952.
