Stamped Postcard Standard Oil Office This is a black and white postcard, of the front and left side of the Main Office building. The bottom left corner of the image on the postcard is labeled "Standard Oil Office, Wood River Ill." Written on the back, "Mon - 19, Dear Aunt Effie: Would you please bring Helen's and my 'wedgies' [unintelligble] when you come Weds? Please thats all now. See you Weds Love, Caral." This postcard is addressed to "Miss E.H. MarKey 756 N 75th St. E. St. Louis, Illinois" and is stamped with a "1 cent George Washington United States Postage Stamp" The post office stamp reads, "Bettendorf IOWA June 19 1:30 PM 1939." June 19, 1939 October 24, 2018

1940 Winchester Model 1912 Shotgun This shotgun is a Winchester Model 1912 internal-hammer, pump-action gun with an external tube magazine. The United States military used this type of gun in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The owner of this particular gun used it to hunt geese, deer, squirrels, turkeys, rabbits, and other animals.

This shotgun was scanned as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2019. It was scanned by Jenna Christeson.

1940s Apple Cranberry Salad This is a recipe that has been in Emma Hosto's family for approximately 8 decades and is made for special occasions and holidays by the family. The recipe states to make the base add 1 bag of romaine lettuce, 1 cup of shredded swiss cheese, 1 medium apple, 1/4cup dried cranberries, and 1/2 cup chopped cashews. The dressing calls for 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup red wine vinegar, 2T lemon juice, 1T diced onions, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Mix all the dressing ingredients together, lastly add 2/3 cup veg. oil and pour over the base.

1940s Chinese Luck Decoration This is a Chinese Luck Decoration from the Republic of China in the 1940s a time of economic downturn following the Great Depression, which impacted economies across the globe, including China where the artifact is from. Because of the downturned economy, decorations like this were limited. The purple beads are representative of grapes signifying wealth, while the red and gold thread is symbolic for good luck. The beads on the decoration are round and hard, while the string is soft and course at the same time.

1940s Edwardsville Creamery Milk Bottle This is an Edwardsville Creamery Milk Bottle from the 1940's. Glass milk bottles were used by delivery services to deliver milk to houses in crates daily. On the front it reads, "Property of Edwardsville Creamery Edwardsville, IL" and on the back it says, "One Quart Liquid". When people were finished with these bottles, they wouldn't always return them to Edwarsville Creamery.

This object was photographed as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. It was found and brought into class by Alessa Heiser. It was found in her backyard.
