1963 and 1964 Vietnam War Draft Classifications Sent to Eugene Weinmann | These two draft notifications were sent to Bethalto resident Eugene Weinmann during the early years of the Vietnam War draft. The first was sent October 28, 1963 and classified Weinmann in 1-A, making him available for unrestricted military service. The second was sent October 19, 1964, which classified him in 3-A and made him unavailable for military service due to "hardship to dependents." Weinmann also had hearing and sight issues. The local draft board was located on Hillsboro Avenue in Edwardsville. These documents were scanned as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2019. 1940s Chinese Paper Money | These seven bills of Chinese paper money were issued in the 1930s and 1940s by either the Bank of China or the Central Bank of China. They were brought to Madison County by an American soldier who was stationed in northern China immediately after World War II. These bills were scanned as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Civic Memorial High School in spring 2018. They were brought to class by the soldier's granddaughter, Dara Parks. |
