These artifacts were brought by students to be scanned as part of a three-day lesson offered by Madison Historical on February 5, 6, and 13, 2020 at Liberty Middle School in Edwardsville. The lesson was given five class periods of students in an American history class taught by Rachel Harris.

	1940s Chinese Luck Decoration	This is a Chinese Luck Decoration from the Republic of China in the 1940s a time of economic downturn following the Great Depression, which impacted economies across the globe, including China where the artifact is from. Because of the downturned economy, decorations like this were limited. The purple beads are representative of grapes signifying wealth, while the red and gold thread is symbolic for good luck. The beads on the decoration are round and hard, while the string is soft and course at the same time. 	1940s Apple Cranberry Salad	This is a recipe that has been in Emma Hosto's family for approximately 8 decades and is made for special occasions and holidays by the family. The recipe states to make the base add 1 bag of romaine lettuce, 1 cup of shredded swiss cheese, 1 medium apple, 1/4cup dried cranberries, and 1/2 cup chopped cashews. The dressing calls for 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup red wine vinegar, 2T lemon juice, 1T diced onions, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Mix all the dressing ingredients together, lastly add 2/3 cup veg. oil and pour over the base. 	1930-1950 Autograph Book Signed by Joe Dimaggio	Thia is an autograph book from James Hino. It is bound with blue leather, and has gold lettering and a picture of a Greco-Roman figure on the front. Two brass bands hold it together on the left side. It is signed by Joe Dimaggio. This book was digitized as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. 	1936 Indian Head (Buffalo) Nickel and Half Dollar Coin	This is coinage produced by the United States, a Nickel and Half-Dollar. The smaller coin is a Buffalo Nickel that is in fair condition and was minted in 1936. The larger one is a silver half dollar in worn condition that was also minted 1936. 	A Satchel Guide to Europe	This booklet entitled "A Satchel Guide to Europe" contains maps of train tracks in Europe. This book gave information on when it would be best to use certain train tracks, the destinations on each individual track, and all other general information on European rails. From left to right: Bobby, Donna, Lloyd, Norma, Jackie, and Louis. The image was taken during the summer of 1934 at their residence on Maple Street in Collinsville, Illinois. 	A Fourth of July Advertisement for Plegge's Store in Bethalto, IL.	This is a Fourth of July advertisement for the Plegge Store in Bethalto, IL. The store was open from 1933-1951 and during its years of operation quickly adapted to new innovations in food products such as Jell-O, Kool-Aid, and Miracle Whip. 	Hartsburg outhouse replica from the 1930s	This is a doll-sized model of an outhouse built in the 1930s. It has two different bathroom doors. One was labeled "HERR" in red and the other was labeled "DAMEN" in the same red ink. There are little toilets inside each door. This object was photographed as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. It was brought to class by Jacob Wibben. 	100,000 Reichsbank Mark from German Depression	This German Reichsbank Mark is an example of the currency issued following the German Depression Following World War I, which resulted in massive amounts of hyperinflation. The inflation began in 1914 and ended in 1923. The currency was completely revamped at the end of 1923 with the creation of the currency of the Retenmark. The Retenmark was later replaced in 1924 by the Reichsmark.
