2020 Liberty Middle School Class Visit (97 total)

These artifacts were brought by students to be scanned as part of a three-day lesson offered by Madison Historical on February 5, 6, and 13, 2020 at Liberty Middle School in Edwardsville. The lesson was given five class periods of students in an American history class taught by Rachel Harris.

	1981 Cookbook Celebrating 25 Years of Women in the Farm Bureau	Cookbook 25 Years: Women of the Farm Bureau is a cookbook compiled by the Madison County Farm Bureau Women's Committee in Edwardsville, Illinois. This cookbook is 490 pages worth of recipies from various families in Madison County, divided by the type of meal each recipe was meant to serve. This cookbook was scanned as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020. This cookbook was contributed by Olivia Coll and her family.	1981	March 4, 2020
	1975 Table Cloth with Rose Patches	This table cloth was made by Kiymet Kulavuz in Turkey during the 1970's. She had originally embroidered the rose patches herself, and then sewn them onto a table cloth before she got married. She then retired it to her daughter, Derya Kulavuz-Onal (who currently posseses it as of 2020), as a wedding gift in 2005. This tablecloth was photographed as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. It was brought to class by Pera Onal.	1970	March 4, 2020
	1973 Raggedy Ann Ornament	This object is a Raggedy Ann ornament. Raggedy Ann is a character in a series of children's books from 1880-1938. This ornament is 47 years old and was a gift to Erin Frank's Grandmother by a neighbor, Betty Matesam, to be gifted to Kendall Frank when she was born. The Frank family hangs the ornament on their Christmas tree every year. This object was digitized as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. 	1972 Madison County Plot Map of Lakewood, Jolda, and Oakdale Subdivisions in Glen Carbon	This item is a Madison County Plot Map from February 5, 1972. It displays Jolda, Lakewood, and Oakdale subdivsions in Madision County, Illinois. On the map are identifiable train tracks owned by the Chicago North Railroad and Northpole Western Railroad. These neighborhoods are in Glen Carbon, Illinois. Also present on the map are geographical markers such as lakes as well as traffic roads, and identifiable land plots throughout the area. 	1969-1975 Italian Lira	These are Italian Liras ranging in date of mint from 1969 and 1975. They were owned by the Great-great-grandfather of Kira Reed of Edwardsville, Illinois, he was born and raised in Bari, Italy until he married and moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1870. There in Oregon, Reed's Great-great-grandfather had three sons and two daughters. When all five of their children grew to adulthood, they moved to Seattle, Washington. Three years after their children had moved out Kira Reed's great-great-grandparents moved back to Bari, Italy. While living in Seattle Kira's great-grandpa had three sons, Scott, Steven and Logan. Kira's great-great-grandfather passed away, he sent my great-grandpa these Italian dollar bills as a keepsake. The money was then passed onto Kira's Great-grandmother and subsequently her son, Steven, who passed it onto his daughter Joleene. Joleene then passed the money onto her daughter Kirra Reed. 	1969 Moscow Ruble Coins	This was the official Russian Currency used between 1917 to the end of the Soviet Union in 1991. At its height, it was worth approximately .991667 USD. This currency was made between 1969 and 1980s. It was probably made in the capital of the Soviet union, Moscow. These coins were photographed as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020, contributed by Arik Screnchuk and his family.	1969	March 4, 2020
	1967 Stanley Handyman Block Plane	The Stanley Handyman block plane is used to shave wood. This wood shaver is made mostly of metal, but has two wooden handles. The grip on the front can be changed out or adjusted. This specific block plane was purchased in the late 1960's, after the specific brand's quality dropped in the 1920s. This artifact was photographed as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020, and was contributed by Brynn Gent and family.	1967	March 4, 2020
	1959 Abe Lincoln Gets His Chance Paperback Book	This is a 1959 publication Abe Gets His Chance. The book was written by Frances Cavanah and illustrated by Don Silbey. The book is a decomissioned library book from the Hilsboro Library, located in downtown Hilsboro, IL. The book is a biography focusing on the childhood of the U.S. president, Abraham Lincoln. This book was photographed as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. The book was brought into class by Jacob McKey.	1959	March 4, 2020
	1958 Sports Review Magazine from Mount Morris, Illlinois	This issue of Sports Review Magazing was Published in Mount Morris, Illinois, in 1958. The issue's special topic is on baseball. On the cover is a picture of Lew Burdette, a Milwaukee pitcher, along with a caption that reads, "Lew Burdette; the pitcher who made Milwaukee famous."The magazine has some mild cosmetic defects and wrinkles on the cover and interior pages. 	1957 United States Dollar Bill	This dollar bill from the year 1957 was saved by Ratcliff Scott's grandmother, who was born the same year. Scott's grandmother passed the dollar bill down to Ratcliff Scott who owned the bill as of Feburary 2020. This currency was digitized as part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in spring 2020. It was brought to class by Scott Radcliff.	1957	March 4, 2020
