2020 Liberty Middle School Class Visit (97 total)

These artifacts were brought by students to be scanned as part of a three-day lesson offered by Madison Historical on February 5, 6, and 13, 2020 at Liberty Middle School in Edwardsville. The lesson was given five class periods of students in an American history class taught by Rachel Harris.

	Derek DeWitt Military Dog Tags from 2008	These are stainless steel military dog tags that belonged to U.S Marine Derek DeWitt who served from 2008-2009. Their purpose is to identify service members. 	Hamel State Bank Bicentennial U.S.A Plate	This is a plate from the Hamel State Bank in 1976. This plate bought as a birthday present for a family member of Alex Fox. It was chipped in the process of moving between houses. The plate is over 30 years old and has an American flag with military soldiers on it. 	May 21, 2000 issue of The Telegraph, with "Verdict Rocks Shell" Headline	This May 21, 2000 issue of The Telegraph includes the headline article of Edwardsville-Shell Oil Co. which wasn't the process of a lawsuit with one of their employees, a former roofing worker who developed mesotheleoma, an asbestos related cancer while working at the Wood River refinery. The worker sued Shell for $34.1 million according to the article. 	"One Step Closer" The 2002 Civic Memorial High School Yearbook	This is a 2002 Civic Memorial High School Yearbook has a hard cover and is purple and gold with eagle prints on the front cover. It contains 208 pages and was created in 2002. The spine reads 'Civic Memorial High Schools Spectator Vol. 51' in gold shiny letters. This document was sold for $34 and the pictures were done by Delmar Studios of Edwardsville, Illinois. This book belonged to Cherise McArthur. 	1911 Minted Chinese Coin	This item is a memento coin for the Birth of the Republic of China. It was minted in China in 1911 and was passed down through the Huang Family. 	1861-1865 Hand Carved Civil War Pipe	This is a dark brown rough hand carved wooden smoking pipe. John R. Dove carved this while he was fighting in the Civil War and he used it for tobacco smoking during his service. Dove served in the Illinois National Guard, 21st infantry. This wooden pipe was brought in by Quinton Kolnsberg as a part of a Madison Historical class visit to Liberty Middle School in February 2020.	1900s	March 4, 2020
	Crescent Roll Recipe	This is a Christmas party recipe for moon shaped dinner rolls. It is from 2003 and was often used for special occasions such as birthdays by the Leaser family. 	East Alton Wood River High Senior Ring	This item is an East Alton-Wood River High School class ring from May 1997. It is gold and has a cross country runner on one side with the year, 1997 and on the other side are buildings with the name Shaun along with East Alton-Wood River High. There is a gem on the top of the ring and on the inside it has Shaun L. Manley engraved. 	1972 Madison County Plot Map of Lakewood, Jolda, and Oakdale Subdivisions in Glen Carbon	This item is a Madison County Plot Map from February 5, 1972. It displays Jolda, Lakewood, and Oakdale subdivsions in Madision County, Illinois. On the map are identifiable train tracks owned by the Chicago North Railroad and Northpole Western Railroad. These neighborhoods are in Glen Carbon, Illinois. Also present on the map are geographical markers such as lakes as well as traffic roads, and identifiable land plots throughout the area.
