Enlistees in the US Army in 1959, including Bethalto resident Kelly Cato This is a group photograph of enlistees in the US army in 1959. Bethalto resident Kelly Cato is standing in the third row from the bottom and third from the left. Cato graduated from Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto and went on to serve in Okinawa on the missle site where he monitored the East China Sea during the Cold War.

1960 Paperweight issued to Bruce Brubaker for serving on the Universities Bond Issue Committee This paperweight was given to Bruce Brubaker by the Universities Bond Issue Committee he served on. Brubaker was a professor at SIUE starting in 1959. After voters approved the bond issue on November 8, SIUE received funding to build the Edwardsville campus, which opened in 1965. 1960 October 31, 2017
History of Madison County Jail, 1814 - 1906, by Evelyn Bowles This pamphlet about the history of the Madison County Jail from 1814 to 1906 was written by Evelyn Bowles, then the chief deputy clerk of the Madison County Board of Supervisors. Bowles first presented the pamphlet at the March 1960 meeting of the Land O'Goshen Historical Society. The Edwardsville Intelligencer then published the pamphlet serially in seven parts, starting on March 15, 1960 and concluding on March 23, 1960. Bowles was later elected as Madison County Clerk in 1974 and served as an Illinois state senator representing the 56th Senate District from 1994 to 2002. March 1960 February 12, 2018

1962 History of Midway in the Madison County Sesquicentennial This is a clipping from the September 4, 1962 Madison County sesquicentennial joint publication of the Alton Evening Telegrpah, the Granite City Press-Record, and the Edwardsville Intelligencer. The clipping includes the article "Midway Was Named for Its Locale" by Mrs. Lloyd Frillman about the history of the unincorporated community of Midway north of Edwardsville. It includes histories of the community's churches, schools, and Midway Service Station. Also in this clipping are portions of articles about the histories of Alton, Pleasant Ridge, Shurtleff College, and Granite City.

Gas Tanker Driven by Bethalto Resident Everett Jett in West Germany in the 1960s This photograph shows the 2HALF ton gas tanker driven by Bethalto resident Everett Jett while he was stationed in West Germany from January 1964 to June 1966. Jett served in the 3-703rd Maintenance Battalion, in which he transported gas to other vehicles using this tanker. Jett later served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. When he retunred home to Bethalto, he became a truck driver.

Truck Driven by Sakasitz in West Germany in the 1960s This photograph shows a truck driven by a Sakasitz, a soldier serving in the 3-703rd Maintenance Battalion. Also in the Battalion was y Bethalto resident Everett Jett, who was stationed West Germany from January 1964 to June 1966. Jett transported gas to other vehicles using a gas tanker. Jett later served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. When he retunred home to Bethalto, he became a truck driver.
