Betty Siemer Oral History Interview This oral history interview with Betty Siemer was part of oral histories conducted in the fall 2001 semester of History 447: Oral History.

Born in the 1940s, Betty Siemer talks about growing up in Alton, IL and witnessing the transformation of a small rural town to a budding suburban environment. She describes not only her life but also the changes to the downtown business district, movie theatres, and her experience working in funeral homes throughout the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.

Blue Golden Anniversary Envelope This is a Standard Oil Company envelope celebrating the 50-year anniversary (1907-1957). The envelope reads, "Fifty Years of Progress" and "Friday, Saturday, Sunday September 20, 21, 22, 1957." The special stationary is emblematic of the importance of the celebration to Standard Oil in Wood River. An illustration of Lewis and Clark is displayed along the left side of envelope. Wood River is contentiously one of the locations of Camp DuBois, Lewis and Clark's encampment before setting out on the "Corp of Discovery" in 1803. 1957 October 25, 2018
