The Rational Spelling Book, 1898, owned by Alton Resident Viola Thompson This 1898 spelling book, "The Rational Spelling Book, Part II" was owned by Alton resident Viola Thompson, whose name is handwritten on the book's front pastedown. The book is intended for fourth grade students and older and may have been used in an Alton classroom. The book includes numerous words for spelling practice and spelling rules from the late 19th century.

1962 History of Midway in the Madison County Sesquicentennial This is a clipping from the September 4, 1962 Madison County sesquicentennial joint publication of the Alton Evening Telegrpah, the Granite City Press-Record, and the Edwardsville Intelligencer. The clipping includes the article "Midway Was Named for Its Locale" by Mrs. Lloyd Frillman about the history of the unincorporated community of Midway north of Edwardsville. It includes histories of the community's churches, schools, and Midway Service Station. Also in this clipping are portions of articles about the histories of Alton, Pleasant Ridge, Shurtleff College, and Granite City.

1963 and 1964 Vietnam War Draft Classifications Sent to Eugene Weinmann These two draft notifications were sent to Bethalto resident Eugene Weinmann during the early years of the Vietnam War draft. The first was sent October 28, 1963 and classified Weinmann in 1-A, making him available for unrestricted military service. The second was sent October 19, 1964, which classified him in 3-A and made him unavailable for military service due to "hardship to dependents." Weinmann also had hearing and sight issues. The local draft board was located on Hillsboro Avenue in Edwardsville.

The Florini Family Opening a Grocery Store in Bethalto in 1937 This photoraph shows Julio Florini, his wife Delfina Florini, and their son Geno Florini opening a grocery store in Bethalto on Spencer Street and near Route 140 in 1937. In 1942, the Florini's converted the location to a tavern named Geno's 140 Club. The restaurant is still open today.

1940 Winchester Model 1912 Shotgun This shotgun is a Winchester Model 1912 internal-hammer, pump-action gun with an external tube magazine. The United States military used this type of gun in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The owner of this particular gun used it to hunt geese, deer, squirrels, turkeys, rabbits, and other animals.

Alt-Wood Merchants Softball Team, 1963 State Champions This clipping from the Alton Telegraph includes a photo of the local Alt-Wood Merchants Softball Team, which won the state championship in 1963. The local softball team was composed of men from the Alton-Wood River area. The photogrpah was included with the Telegraph's series, Our Past, and was submitted to the Telegraph by team member Noel "Butch" Rister, who is photographhed.

1966 Copy of 1919 Marriage Certificate for Claude D. Potter and Josie Anna Walker This Arkansas marriage certificate is a copy issued March 19, 1966. The original certificate was issued June 21, 1919 to certify the marriage of Claude D. Potter and Josie Anna Walker in Malden, Missouri, in the Missouri Bootheel.

St. Paul Lutheran Church 1973 Parish Hall Dedication This pamphlet was created for the order of service for the dedication of St. Paul Lutheran Church's new Parish Hall on January 7, 1973. The pamphlet includes an outlined history of the church and new parish hall.
