2020 Liberty Middle School Class Visit (97 total)

These artifacts were brought by students to be scanned as part of a three-day lesson offered by Madison Historical on February 5, 6, and 13, 2020 at Liberty Middle School in Edwardsville. The lesson was given five class periods of students in an American history class taught by Rachel Harris.

	Early 1900s Railroad Spike	This was a spike used to secure base plates to the railroad in the early 1900's, it is made out of steel that has now rusted over. 	1930s Historic Leclaire Home	This is a photo of a historic Leclaire home in Edwardsville built in the 1930s. It is two stories, has three bathrooms, and three bedrooms and constructed out of brick. 	Puka Shell Necklace from the 1960s	Puka shell necklaces were popular in Hawaii in the 1960s. The puka shell necklace was an attractive and inexpensive lei which could be made and sold on the beach. Lia Kampwerth's grandmother was on a trip to Hawaii in the 1960s when she bought this necklace. 	Circa 1970s Apple Sauce Cake Recipe	This is a recipe for apple sauce cake that was created circa 1970, and has since been passed down generationally through Elena Konradt's family. The paper has yellowed with age and has collected stains over time. This recipe was made every year for Elena's grandmother on her birthday. 	1998 Jack's 66 Service Station Photograph	This photo was taken in 1998 at Jack's 66 Service Station in Edwardsville. This is a picture of Sadie Lippoldt's mom, Michelle, and her cousin, Chelsey. Her grandpa was the original owner of Jack's 66 Service Station, and they were celebrating a Route 66 event. 	Madison County Courthouse Telegraph	A board with three small screws on the top rights to the middle a tapper that tapped out your message. On the receiver there is a wooden board with a metal trim and the actual metal receiver on top. Tristan Mackenzie's great grandfather came into possession of it when the court house officials discarded it for a telephone replacement. Dimensons of the receiver: Base 22 1/2in. Height 3in. 	1988 Anita Baker-'Giving You the Best That I Got' Cassette Tape	This is a cassette tape with the album "Giving You the Best That I Got" by Anita Baker. The front cover shows Anita Baker looking off into the distance while she is leaned against what appears to be a stone basin. The cassette case holds the cassette tape inside, as well as the cover paper. The cover paper shows the lyrics of all of the songs and the people who plays the instruments in each song. 	1999 Traditional Benin Mask	This is a mask made of terracotta that is made to look like a man with head wear and markings. It was made in 1999 by the Urabic people of Benin. 	1870 Spring Flower Vase	The metal vase is from 1870 and stands nine inches tall. It is undamaged and not rusted, leaving it in overall good condition. 	1900s Suspension Insulator	This suspension insulator separated the line conductors and supported them electrically. This object is very rusted and also is very corroded. The material on the top is ceramic, with the reason why they use ceramic being because it's a non-conductive metal.
